In five years period, the population of Tamil people had increased marginally. During this period, the Tamil people had to travel about 250 miles South (London) to perform their religious duties and to attend cultural events and activities.
In 2003, few Tamil friends joined together and started a foundation named "Merseyside Tamil School". Through the foundation, they started conducting Tamil Cultural events and Special Religious ceremonies by renting a space, wherever available, on an ad-hoc basis. The friends and families of the Tamil population within the region gathered to attend these events.
The Tamil people felt the need of a permanent place to perform their religious duties and to attend cultural events and activities. Thus, in the General Council meeting of "Merseyside Tamil School" foundation, a decision with an historic significance was made – To buy a place and conduct the religious and cultural ceremonies for Tamil people in that fixed place.
Based on the decision from the General Body meeting, the "Merseyside Tamil School" foundation researched on the financial needs to obtain a place and to build the place. The 11 members of the foundation donated £110,000 in the first phase towards this objective. In the second phase, the entire Tamil population in the Liverpool city contributed generously towards this common objective.
From then on, various religious and cultural events related to Tamil people are being conducted in the premises. Apart from the regular events, annual festival is being celebrated in a grand fashion every year. All the founding members are honoured by "Given the first right" to run the annual festival.
As of now, Two Priests oversee the Temple functioning. Eternal Veneration (Nithiya Pooja) and Special Prayers are being conducted within the Temple by the Priests every day. Not only in Liverpool, the Tamil people around the city are also big-heartedly supporting the successful functioning of the Temple.
Every June, a special decorative pooja is also performed every year. Over the last six years, the Temple has witnessed an immense growth. Based on the amazing contribution from the Devotees, the Temple had been extended for the religious work. A new centre of learning has also been set up within the premises for the learning the Tamil language and Tamil cultural activities.
The Temple will continue to act as a place for Tamil language and cultural development.
